Metallographic Image Analysis Modules
Our range of Image analysis systems provide a single fully integrated analytical tool for study and documentation of microstructures using fast and automatic image processing techniques. Quantification of phases ( ASTM E563 ), inclusions ( ASTM E45 / E1122 ), Grain Size ( ASTM E112 ) etc. is achieved by capturing the picture through a high resolution color CCD camera interfaced to the camera port of the metallurgical microscope. The image is ported onto a Pentium based PC by a specially designed image acquisition card for preview and storage.
We have various options in Image ANalysis hardware and software, right from basich image printing systems to high end Image Processing Workstaitons, to suit the analysis requirements and budgets of a wide range of users:
- Image Capture and Printing
- MVIG 1005 (Basic Imaging System)
- MVIG 2005 (Customized System)
- Other Imaging Software (MCIG 2000 , Medi Flo, Circuit Flo etc.)
Image Capture and Printing
This system comprises of a microscope, a high-resolution CCD Camera , a scientific grade frame grabber card and Image Capturing and documentation software. Users existing microscope and computer can be used. The microstructure can be seen as live video on the computer monitor. This enables the metallurgist to discuss the microstructure with his vendors/suppliers and also compare with standatd microstructure charts.
The image can be modified, stored, printed and sent by email to any other interested parties.
Some important features of this Image Comparison and documentation system are:
- Report generation in MS Word
- A library of more than 100 microstructure and failure analysis photos etc. for comparison studies
- 1x and 2x viewer utilities, to get the same image magnification on the monitor, same as that seen through the microscope. This enables the user to get a live image exactly at 100x on the monitor and compare it with a scanned photo / book etc.
- Easily Upgradable to the MVIG 1005 / MVIG 2005
MVIG 1005 : Basic Image Analysis System
This system contains all the hardware and software of our Basic Image Analysis and documentation system. In addition to that there are Analysis modules for:
- Grain Size Analysis based on ASTM E1382-91 / ASTM E112 (Intercept Methods)
- Inclusion Rating in Steels based on ASTM E45 (METHOD A) / E1122 (American )
- Percentage, volume and area fraction and distribution of Phase(s) as per ASTM E 562.
- Nodularity of nodules in C.I. as per ASTM E 247, size and nodule count
- Porosity in terms of size and distribution analysis with Particle size and distribution analysis
- Measurement of Banding with avg., max, min bandwidth and length as per ASTM E 1268
- Graphite Flake length, and percentage as per ASTM A-247-67 (Re approved 1990)
Many more modules are available and can be provided as part of this system.
Some important features of the MVIG 1005 are:
- The results, microstructure images, graphs etc. are directly exported to MS Word by the software, thereby giving a fully filled up Word file, which can be printed, saved sent by email etc.
- All software modules comply with standards like ASTM, JIS, DIN etc. This is a very cost effective solution for companies who do not require the software to be customised.
- Technical backup is available , as the software is developed in India.

MVIG 2005 : Customized Image Analysis System
The MVIG 2005 is the most widely used Image Analysis System in India. This system has all the features of the MVIG 1005 and many more. Some of the salient points about this system are:
- Direct reporting in Word / MS Excel.
- Report formats customised to be in tune with the current reporting style of the customer. Reports will have customers logo, letterhead header etc.
- Operation of the modules can be customised to suit specific analysis and reporting needs of individual companies. This is important when you are dealing with a wide variety of components / vendors / suppliers.
- No previous knowledge of computers / Image Analysis is required to use this system
- All software developments are carried out in Pune. Modifications/customizations in the software are done free of cost, even after installation. No other company customizes software according to users requirement.
- Free lifetime software upgrades.
- Facility for interfacing motorized stage for the micro Hardness Tester, microscope etc.
- Four optical instruments, like microscope, Micro Hardness Tester, Stereo Microscope, SEM etc. can be connected to this system simultaneously, to get a very powerful and integrated reporting station.
MVIG 2005 has been designed to form a single fully integrated analytical tool for study and documentation of microstructures using fast and automatic image processing techniques. A very useful quantification of phases, inclusions, defects and host of other data associated with microphotographs is achieved by capturing the picture through a high resolution color CCD camera interfaced to the camera port of the metallurgical microscope. The image is ported onto a Pentium based PC by a specially designed image acquisition card for preview and storage.
Separate executables are available for different kinds of analysis, so that the software “knows” what are the steps required to complete that analysis and the report is automatically generated according to the relevant standard.
Our Image Analyser consists of a hardware and software solution, customised as per the users requirement. The hardware consists of cameras and frame acquisition cards from leading manufacturers around the world.
The software is completely developed at our laboratories and has many applications. Some of the applications are explained below.
Image Flo: Software for Metallurgical Analysis
The Image Flo embodies new, elegant, user friendly and powerful image processing techniques. Furthermore, this software supports true color image processing, allowing you to distinguish and process a wide range of phases, as essential in Metallurgy. |
